Heidi Gayle Baker was born to her parents, James Moies Farrell and Glenetta Betty Farrell in Laguna Beach, California on August 29, 1959.
Her mother “Glenetta Betty Farrell” was an English teacher who passed away in 2015.
Heidi earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts degree from Vanguard University. She also holds a PhD in systematic theology, which she received from King’s College London in 1995.
Heidi who grew up in Southern California became a Christian after listening to a Navajo preacher while she was volunteering on a Choctaw reservation.

In 1979, she met Rolland Baker, who happened to be the grandson of missionary H. A. Baker. Just six months later, in 1980, they tied the knot and embarked on a mission trip shortly thereafter. Their journey led them to become ordained ministers in 1985.
In 1980, the Bakers established Iris Global, a non-profit Christian ministry dedicated to providing charitable services and spreading the Christian faith, especially in developing nations.
Their focus shifted in 1995 when they relocated to Mozambique to launch a new ministry centered on caring for orphaned and abandoned children. In collaboration with the Mozambican government, Iris Global took on the financial and administrative responsibilities of a former government-run orphanage in Chihango, near Maputo, where approximately 80 children were in their care.
Candy Gunther Brown, a professor of religious studies at Indiana University, has recognized the Bakers as some of the most influential leaders in the global Pentecostal Christian movement.
