Assad Zaman’s journey in acting started in 2014, when he had a remarkable start on the London stage, performing for the first time in the National Theatre’s “Behind the Beautiful Forevers.”
After this big achievement, he shifted to onscreen roles, making his debut in an episode of Russell T Davies’ show “Cucumber” on Channel 4. In that same year, Zaman went on a tour with Ayub Khan Din’s play “East is East,” expanding his experience in live theater.
In 2017, Zaman played Sathnam in the BBC One version of “Apple Tree Yard. He continued his stage ventures with Zadie Smith’s “White Teeth” at the Kiln Theatre in 2018, and later appeared in “The Funeral Director” on tour and “A Doll’s House” at the Lyric in Hammersmith in 2019. In 2020, Zaman added “The Winter’s Tale” to his list of stage achievements.
The year 2020 also saw Zaman in Steve McQueen’s “Small Axe” series, specifically in the Red, White, and Blue episode, confirming his reputation as a skilled actor in both movies and theater. Importantly, Zaman revisited “East is East” in 2021 at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
