Anna Sawai Biography
Anna Sawai was born in Wellington, New Zealand, on June 11, 1992. Coming from a Japanese background Anna’s mom was an opera singer who later became a piano teacher, while her dad worked for an electronics company.
As Anna grew up, her family moved a lot because her dad’s job required it. Some of the places they lived in were Hong Kong and the Philippines. When Anna turned 10, they settled down in Yokohama, Japan.
Anna has an older sister named Reina, who’s a ballet dancer and works with the Hong Kong Ballet Company.
During high school, Anna continued to get lessons in singing and dancing. She went to Sophia University and was transferred to Avex Trax, a record label.
In 2012, she sang the U.S. national anthem at the Tokyo Dome for the start of the 2012 Major League Baseball season.
She later joined a girl group called ARA and released a single, but the group didn’t last long. In 2013, she joined another girl group called Faky and released their first single, “Better Without You.”
However, she left Faky in November 2018 to focus more on her acting career. Her last performance with the group was in December of the same year.

In 2004, Anna Sawai began acting at 11 years old, starring in a Tokyo stage production of “Annie” as the main character, Annie. In 2006, she auditioned for Avex Inc., a big entertainment company, and earned a management contract that allowed her to train in music and dance.
Anna kept acting, appearing in a small role on the TV show “Our Love Song” in 2007. She then made her Hollywood debut in “Ninja Assassin” in 2009, where she played a ninja named Kiriko.
While in Faky, Anna also did solo projects, like appearing in a music video and lending her voice to a video game.
After a little break, Anna returned to acting in 2018, making her return appearance in a series called “Colors.” and performed in a stage production.
