Early Life and Educational Background
Alexis Nunes was born on May 8, 1990, at Nuttall Memorial Hospital in Kingston, Jamaica. Her parents have different ethnic backgrounds; her father is Jamaican, while her mother, Martha Esmeralda, hails from El Salvador.
Growing up, she attended Hillel Academy and later on, Campion College, both in Kingston, Jamaica.
Despite her love for animals, which initially made her consider becoming a veterinarian, she discovered that she was not comfortable with handling blood and other related aspects of animal care.
Hence, she decided to channel her passion for communication and storytelling into a degree in broadcast journalism at the University of the West Indies Caribbean School of Media and Communication.

Professional Career in Journalism
After graduating from the University, Alexis N. saw an opportunity when she found out that Sports Max was hosting an audition led by Oliver McIntosh.
She decided to give it a shot and auditioned for the role. Her ability to pronounce the volleyball sports governing body “NORCECA” correctly set her apart from the other candidates and secured her the job.
She worked for Sports Max for almost four years, gaining valuable experience and skills that would later prove useful in her career as a sports journalist.
Her big break came when she met former footballer Robbie Earle during his trip to Jamaica.
Earle was working for ESPN at the time and was impressed with Nunes’ talent. He asked her if she was interested in pursuing a career with ESPN overseas.
Nunes welcomed the idea and Earle went ahead with his recommendation to ESPN. Impressed by what they heard, the sports network flew her to their headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut for an audition.
This audition ultimately led to her being hired by ESPN in October 2015 as their lead soccer and cricket reporter based in Europe. In addition, Nunes also co-hosts the network’s soccer news and information program, ESPN FC.
She has made significant contributions to the network’s coverage of major sporting events in the Caribbean, including the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, the 2019 Pan American Games, multiple Cricket World Cups, the 2019 FA Cup Final, and the ICC Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup.
