I caught the opening segment of Kon Ichikawa's The Burmese Harp on cable the other day. At first I thought it was an old jingo war movie. What little I watched was winsome, restrained, and quite unlike what I usually find on TV. Although I wasn't staying up into the wee hours to watch the film, the sight of it convinced me to put a hold on a copy at the library.
